A German Christmas
We are having a German Christmas Eve tonight. All that means is that
we start eating and drinking 12 hours early.

Cinemas these days....
I'm currently sitting in a cinema waiting for the movie to start and I was thinking how bad the new idea of seat allocation is.
That was until I realized something. Next time I come to see a movie I'm going to book online, choose a good seat and show up 20 min's late so I dont have to sit through the adverts and previews.
I'm not to worried about missing the movie previews now that you can download high-def movie trailers from a number of sites on the net. Also they are mixing up the trailers and adverts so to watch one you have to watch the other.
I wonder if many other people are going to catch onto this and what the cinemas are going to do to stop this happening?

What laptop?
For the past year or so I have liked to think that my next laptop might be a Mac. I started looking seriously this evening and I have come to the decision that it will not be.
Now I am not a normal user, most of the work that I will be doing on it will be data intensive, so lots of RAM and a fast hard drive are important. I do not play games so I don't really care about graphics and some of the work programs I'll run will require XP. None of these facts rule out a Mac, well apart from the fast hard drive. I don't care about built in web cam or the colour of the case. Nor do I need a BluRay or HD-DVD player.
I was surprised when I started to list the spec's that I cared about and the prices next to each other. I have only looked at Dell & Apple so far and I am going to look at the rest of the manufactures, but as you can see below, I am forced to rule out the Mac.

It's still slowing fading away
Here are a couple of YouTube videos of what the screen looks like while it is dying.
My LCD has been slowly dying all day
It started out this morning when I turned on my computer. I started watching a TV show on it and rebooted half way cause I thought my video card was playing up. I kept watching and then there was something like a burn in on the screen that I hadn't seen before. I couldn't work out what it was so I kept looking and I ended up taking a photo of my display. I then realised something was wrong.
Right now, the screen is washed out and the response time seems to have been boosted to an impressive 1 - 1.5 seconds.I am typing and watching the letters fade in over the 1 or 2 seconds after I type them. It is a fairly cool looking affect. Changing tabs in Firefox reminders me of a tab extension that I once installed.
On the good side I am planning on getting a new display tomorrow. I am looking at the ViewSonic 22" VA2226w

Media Games
Now most of you know that I am a fan of the Dockers. To some people that means that I have to hate West Coast, but that just isn't true.
However I can have a great laugh at Cousins and the way that the media is playing this one up. This is a quick screen grab of the News.com.au website:
I can't think of how they could have worded that better.....

Byron Bay
We headed down to Byron Bay,
But not before a quick coffee stop
When we got there we meet up with Louis, he was down there for a wedding (not his) so we thought it'd make sense to choose that day to head down.
This is the light house on the most Eastern point of mainland Australia
Gwen and Louis at the lighthouse
What a pretty boy

It looks like we might get a few quiet days at work, about time, we have been working like mad for the last 4 weeks, with only a day or 2 off in that time.

Sexxie Coffie
Richard and I just stopped at Sexxie Coffie on our way back to Brisbane and it was disappointing. With a name like that we expected girls in Bikini's serving us coffee, but no... Just a normal coffee shop with a normal name.

I am back on the road, on Thursday night I got on a plane bound for Rockhampton. I was there a couple of nights and now as I type this I am in Bluff. Not to sure if I am going to be back in Brisbane on Sunday or Monday yet, only time will tell.

It Works
I have hacked my Xbox and I am now streaming media off my computer to my TV. Once it is set up it's easy. If you want more info on how to do it just contact me.
Hacking my Xbox
I found a link this morning that described the steps on how to hack the Xbox. I have been doing it and it seems really easy. If you have the parts then it shouldn't take more then a couple of hours.
So far I have replaced the dashboard and I am currently installing the Xbox Media Center. I'll let you know how it goes.

So Much
So much to tell, but not really in the mood, so I'll see how this goes.
Last Monday I landed back in Brisbane. We left our car out there and we are planning on flying back out there early this week sometime.
I think that the plane we flu back in was one of the ones that was grounded in a recent Qantas safely scare. All I know is that the one we where in still has the wings attached when we landed.
There are a lot of photo's that I want to post from my last trip and I'll get them onto Facebook if I don't manage to get them on to the blog.

Back in Thargomindah
We are spending our second night in Thargomindah and it looks like we are going to be stuck in this region until Monday afternoon as that is the next flight out of here. But it's not all bad news, I think that there is a party in Charleville tomorrow night that we are going to. Ute racing, bull riding and good out country fun. I'm looking forward to it, just not the hang over that I am sure to have on Sunday.
Attack of the donkey
We stopped for lunch yesterday at a town that consisted of a pub, and nothing else, not even a house, so I guess it couldn't be called a town. However the food was good and I think that we might end up eating there again today.
One thing that was a little disturbing, there was a donkey and he actually tried to lick the laptop. The door was left open on the passenger side of the car and this donkey walked up and thought that the laptop looked good, so he had a sniff and a lick of it. I'm glad I was the one driving that afternoon and I didn't have to work on that machine.

In case you haven't heard, apple have released a new range of iPods. They are nice and I can't wait to get my hands on a Touch. The pricing looks good as well:

- Classic - 80GB = $349, 160GB = $479
- Touch - 8GB = $419, 16GB = $549
Please Gwen can I have one?

Fall-Down Drunk
A man, whose level of drunkenness was bordering on the absurd, stood up to leave a bar and fell flat on his face.
"Maybe all I need is some fresh air," thought the man as he crawled outside.
He tried to stand up again, but fell face first into the mud.
"Screw it," he thought. "I'll just crawl home."
The next morning, his wife found him on the doorstep asleep.
"You went out drinking last night, didn't you?" she said.
"Uh, yes," he said sheepishly. "How did you know?"
"You left your wheelchair at the bar again."

Coming to an end
Our trip is starting to wind up, in a little over a week we will have done over 6000km traveling the Queensland outback.
This is our last night in Charleville, tomorrow we have some more work to do in this area but after that we are going to begin the long drive home.
We have dubbed the road that we have done most of our driving on as the killing fields due to the number of dead Roo's and Emu's that there are on the side of the road. We didn't really understand why there where so many on that road until we where forced to drive at night. We had no less that 10 - 15 Roo's jump out in front of us. We did hit one, but it went straight under our two left wheels so it died instantly and it did not suffer.
I'm really looking forward to getting back home on Thursday and finally purchasing a car.

Charleville....
We arrived in Charleville last night and checked into our motel, and let me tell you we where more then disappointed....
The rooms they put us in where crappy and old and I think that they are smokers rooms as they do smell a bit and there is an ashtray on the bench.
We are checking out of here tomorrow morning and moving to a motel up the street, so that should make the stay a little more enjoyable.
At this point, it looks like we are going to be heading back to Brisbane on Thursday, but who knows for sure. Dates on these trips don't mean to much.

On Time... NOT
After Perth rolled out the best weather that it could for me (I don't think that I have seen the sun in 4 days) I am at the airport waiting for my flight, that has been delayed. At least this visit helped me remember what rain was as I don't think that I have seen any since I have been in Brisbane. I'll be great to get back to Brisbane and maybe even buy a car this week, who knows???

This sort of reminds me of when Harn lowered the percentage of Hahn Ice, I don't think I have had once since then.

Riding, the iPhone & More
The iPhone was released in the US on Friday (this morning our time) and from what I have heard it was a big affair. I do not know of any violence in the line (unusual for the US) except for against one reporter, but they kinda asked for it.
I also headed out to the trails again this morning. Today we went out to some of the trails near where I live in Toowong. They where no where as challenging but I still had a good time. It's been a few weeks since I was last out riding, we have been a bit soft recently and not going out cause it has been cold. To those in the UK, in Brisbane we call cold anything under 10 (higher than your max temp's for most of the year)
Tonight we we are having drinks to bid farewell to Jonas. He has been one of the main people responsible for making sure that there isn't to much blood in my alcohol system since I have been in Brisbane. He is heading back to Switzerland but not before he puts on a BBQ and beers for us all.
I think it's going to be a huge night and with all the boys being in Melbourne tonight I bet that there is going to be 1 or 10 drunk calls made as well.

Well I am having an early start today in hopes that I can finish early to. At the moment I am at the beach near Burleigh Heads just waiting for the switch to open in about 10 min.
The sunrise is amazing, I don't think I've seen a sun rise over the ocean before (being from the west coast).

Telstra........
This was taken from an article on Whirlpool.
"The $59 price would just provide access to the customer line, and competitors would have to charge more at retail to cover other costs and add margins. It does however include a line rental component of $27, according to reports.
The price makes Telstra's FTTN look expensive compared to current broadband access costs, which offer the same speed for just $27 (without line rental). Decent broadband speeds (i.e. 24Mbit ADSL2+) would need to cost a lot more to make up Telstra's expected $85 average price.
Competitive Carrier's Coalition executive director David Forman said the pricing "confirmed everyone's worst fears". "Telstra's plan would, in one fell swoop, make broadband a luxury item", he said."
I guess I knew they would do it, but it still hurts to see Telstra holding back high speed broadband from the majority of Australian residents.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Lat night Gwen and I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I was long and I only almost fell to sleep once, and anyone who knows me, knows that is pretty good.
It was good, but it was also long. One of the greatest things about the movie was the 25meter screen that we saw it on. This thing was huge. I am planning on seeing Harry Potter in Gold Class but if I want to see it a second time on the large screen I am going to iMax again.
After that we went to South Bank for dinner and a drink and a stroll through the markets there before we rode home.

Brissie to the Bay
I did the 50k Brissie to the Bay ride this morning. It was amazing, we did it in about 2.5 hours. I thought it'd take me about 3 - 3.5 hours on the mountain bike. I put slicks on it last night so I didn't wear out my off road tires and they also helped us roll faster.
When the images are released (there where professional photographers there) I'll add the link or I'll upload them.
